Mandriva One 2008.0
good morning. i tried mandriva one 2008.0 just now at 730am. and it sucks, like pclinuxos and fedora it has pretty graphics/theme though like most modern distros.
on booting the live cd an nvidia logo shows up which indicates it detected/installed drivers, cool.
then it starts off the dumb setup questions again like pclinuxos instead of going straight to the desktop.
india is not present in the countries list to select
it then asks for desktop effects to be enabled, 2 options, "metisse" and "compiz fusion", metisse has translucent aero-glass like windows, compiz fusion has wobbly windows which work on this kde, doesnt seem to work for me with opensuse's kde
at least it didnt ask for login/user/password like fedora/pclinuxos and logged into the desktop automatically.
again, like pclinuxos its not as simple as it seems, again there are 2 control areas, a "configure your system" and another "control center" which is for kde.
the collection of apps is good as is expected with kde plus gimp, openoffce, firefox.
flash worked in the live session, althogh trying to play an AAC stream it popped up a dialog asking to install codecs which crashed when i clicked it.
i played with the wobbly windows and rotating 3d desktop for some time then powered off.
so in conclusion, dont bother with mandriva unless you want to be spammed by them asking to purchase their professional version
